The Days that Chase Us

The Days that Chase Us

By Allie Marie

Those days we spent running around the backyard

are coming back to chase us.

Our innocent games fall between our hands

and they dissipate our plans.

Tag you’re it again.

Ashes, Ashes we all fall down.

Late at night I used to sneak up to your treehouse.

You’d look up from your dad’s

old comic books and from your eyes I knew.

All I needed was to talk to you.

Don’t forget all the secrets I keep.

Remember me before you fall asleep.

Those days we spent running around the backyard

are coming back to chase us.

Our lives are no longer controlled by what we dream,

but by how we want them to seem.
